Welcome to Toxin ("Toxin," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Toxin mobile application (the "App"). By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Toxin lets you scan packaged-food barcodes and ingredient labels to see information about ingredients and additives, including a risk score and flagged ingredients with cited sources, and suggested alternative products. Product data is drawn from public databases and, when you choose, from photos you take of labels that are processed by a third-party AI service to extract ingredient text.
The App is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is NOT medical, nutritional, or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare professional. Ingredient flags, scores, and any statements about additives are based on publicly available sources and general research and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or not applicable to your individual circumstances. Always consult a qualified professional before making medical or dietary decisions. You use the App and rely on its information at your own risk.
Product and ingredient data comes from third-party and crowd-sourced databases and from AI-based reading of label photos, all of which may be incomplete or inaccurate. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any information, score, flag, or alternative suggested by the App. Scores and flags reflect a methodology based on cited sources and are one perspective, not a definitive judgment about any product.
The App's features require a paid auto-renewing subscription, offered after a free trial. By starting a subscription you agree to the following:
You agree not to misuse the App, including: reverse-engineering it, using it unlawfully, attempting to disrupt or compromise it, scraping or redistributing its data, or using it to harass or harm others.
The App, its design, and its content (excluding third-party data and your own content) are owned by the operators and protected by law. Product data is used under the terms of its sources, including the Open Database License (ODbL) for applicable data.
When a product is not found, you may choose to photograph an ingredient label. With your consent, that image is sent to a third-party AI service to extract ingredient text. See our Privacy Policy for details. Do not submit images containing other people or sensitive personal information.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND ACCURACY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATORS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE APP OR ITS INFORMATION, INCLUDING ANY HEALTH OR DIETARY DECISIONS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators from claims arising out of your misuse of the App or violation of these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
